I've always loved pita chips, and have been making them in the oven for years, so I finally decided to try making them in my air fryer, and I'm so glad I did! The air fryer makes such crispy and delicious pita chips, without any butter and only 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil. You just need a few pantry spices to make these delicious homemade snacks.
Pita chips are a big hit in our house. We add them to dip platters, and even on salads & soups as croutons! Everyone is always impressed that I make these delicious, seasoned pita chips from scratch. The air fryer gets these pita chips crispy and golden brown so quickly while enhancing their flavor.
These homemade pita chips are super simple to make. All you need to do is season them in a bowl and bake them in your air fryer. I tear the pita into bite-sized pieces by hand, but if you prefer, you could use a knife or scissors to cut them instead. INGREDIENTS:
2 large pitas
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano (see note 2)
1/4 teaspoon of smoked paprika (optional)
1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon of onion powder
Salt & pepper to taste
STEPS:
Tear the pita breads into bite-sized pieces (about 2 inches/5 cm) and add them to a large bowl.
Drizzle the pita with the olive oil and toss to coat.
Season the pita: Sprinkle the spices (I like to use oregano, garlic and onion powder) and salt & pepper over the pita chips. Toss well to coat.
Spread the seasoned pita chips in an air fryer basket. I like to line mine to make clean up easier. Bake in your air fryer at 350°F (177°C) for 5 minutes.
Shake the basket and bake for another 3 minutes, or until the level preferred crispiness has been reached, it should be golden brown.
Bon appétit! Enjoy them plain or with my tasty hummus, here is the link to my recipe: https://www.eatingwithhouri.com/post/easy-hummus-recipe-better-than-store-bought
