Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes (quick, easy & crispy)

These Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes are perfectly delicious! They’re super easy to make, and yet taste like they’re labour intensive! These delicious smashed potatoes come out of the air fryer with fluffy insides, and yet super crispy on the outside. They have all the flavors and textures of a crispy baked potato, but somehow taste even better! What puts these over the top is the sauce I add to them right before putting them in the air fryer, it’s delicious!

These air fryer smashed potatoes make a great side dish (although they’re highly addictive so they can easily been eaten as an entire meal, I speak from experience!) They’re incredibly crispy, with a cheesy, buttery, garlicky flavour. You’ll see from my video and pictures just how easy they are to make! My step by step instructions make it so that any level of cook can make these delicious potatoes!

These smashed potatoes will quickly become your new favorite air fryer recipe, you need to huge the a try!

*You will need 1 lb of small potatoes (about 8 – 10)

INGREDIENTS for the sauce:

  • 4 tablespoons of butter, softened

  • 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning or oregano

  • 1/4 cup of shredded Parmesan & mozzarella cheeses

  • Salt and pepper to taste

STEPS:

  1. Wash your potatoes thoroughly. If you're using bigger sized potatoes, cut them in half or even smaller. I usually like to use the smaller sized potatoes.

  2. Add the potatoes to a large pot with enough salted water to cover them. * I also like to add a 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric into the water, this is optional. Boil the potatoes on medium-high heat for about 20-25 minutes.

  3. When the potatoes are cooked, drain them and let them sit for a few minutes so you don’t burn yourself while handling them.

  4. Use this time to make your sauce. Mix your softened butter, olive oil, garlic powder, Italian seasoning/oregano and cheeses.

  5. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (20 minute timer setting).

  6. Place the potatoes on a cutting board and use the bottom of a glass cup (or large fork) to gently smash them. The thinner the potatoes, the crispier they will be. Add salt and pepper to the potatoes.

  7. Carefully move the smashed potatoes into the lined air fryer basket, making sure they do not overlap or they won’t get crispy. Top the potatoes with the delicious sauce and air fry for 19 minutes- I flip them halfway through the cooking time and add more sauce to the other side.

  8. Remove them from the air fryer and enjoy them just as they are, or with a garlic aioli! Bon appétit!
