Scrumptious Apple Crisp

Updated: Apr 7, 2022

Who needs apple cinnamon candles when you can pop this apple crisp in the oven and wait for the delicious smell to drift through your house! It is an iconic Fall classic. Every time we go apple picking, we’re left with a large amount and scramble to find ways to use the apples, and this apple crisp is always a go to! This dessert will warm your heart, and bring you comfort. Its juicy, delicious sugary cinnamon apples, and crispy, buttery, crumbled topping makes for an irresistible, yet easy fall dessert! Give it a try!

INGREDIENTS:

*For the filling:

  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon

  • 8 apples (about 10 cups sliced)

  • a few squeezes of lemon juice

*For the topping/crumble:

  • 3/4 cup of rolled oats (plain oatmeal can be used)

  • 3/4 cup of all purpose flour

  • 1 cup of brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter

  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

STEPS:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F. Spray a baking dish with non-stick cooking spray and set aside. Peel and thinly slice the apples (into 1/4 inch slices).

  2. In a large mixing bowl, add the sliced apples, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and a few squeezes of lemon juice. Mix well and transfer to the prepared baking dish.

  3. In a medium mixing bowl, add all the topping ingredients (brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, and the butter). *I used two forks to cut the butter into the oat mixture, and used a bit of a downward twisting motion, until mixture stuck together and looked like little marble sized crumbs. I should mention that I quickly switched to using my hands to cut butter into the mixture, it worked so much better!

  4. Spread the topping over the apples in the baking dish. Gently pat the topping to even it out.

  5. Bake for 50 minutes, until it turns golden brown and bubbly.

  6. Serve warm and enjoy! *My family likes a side of ice cream to go along with it!

  7. Bon appétit!
