If you don’t have any onions, grab some next time you’re at the grocery be she you need to try this recipe! You will soon discover what all the hype is around this viral onion broil recipe.
My daughter has been going crazy over this delicious onion boil. It’s so simple yet so flavourful. It’s seasoned with just butter, salt and a few spices & seasonings. I can’t explain to you how flavourful this dish truly is. And this onion will definitely be the star of any dish you decide to serve it with.
I love all the sayings about onions & their layers. I’m often reminded about Donkey & Shrek talk Peeling back the layers of an onion. It's a metaphor for life and growth that might not be perfect but never gets old.
Take my advice and find some nice big onions, they say size doesn’t matter, but.. I think bigger onions would be even better. These are all I could find today, and while they did serve their purpose, they were just so delicious that we wanted more!
Whether you serve it as a main course or side dish, I hope you enjoy this viral onion boil recipe!
INGREDIENTS:
5 small onions or 2 large (15 ounce) onions, peeled and ends trimmed off and cored
5 tablespoons of butter, for stuffing the onions
3 tablespoons of butter, melted for sauce
Salt & pepper to taste
2 big garlic cloves, pressed or minced
1 teaspoon of onion powder
1/2 teaspoons of garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon of paprika
1/3 teaspoon of smoked paprika
1/4 teaspoon of chili seasoning
1/2 teaspoon of steak seasoning (I used The Gospel & Texas Roadhouse)
STEPS:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Peel and core the onions. Stuff them with the butter. Place the onions on sheets of aluminum foil big enough to wrap around them, and season them with salt & pepper.
Make the sauce: in a mixing bowl, add the melted butter, pressed garlic, all the seasonings, mix well. Top each onion with a generous amount of sauce.
Wrap the onions individually in foil. Seal the entire onion tightly in the foil and place it in a baking dish, this will prevent messy spills. Bake in the oven for 1 hour.
After an hour, remove from the oven and open the foil to check on the onions. The entire onion should be tender and slightly caramelized. If you feel it needs more time to cook, just reseal the foil and bake it in the oven for another 10 minutes.
Make sure you pour all the juices from the foil on top of the onions to maximize the delicious flavour. I love to eat these on their own, but you can also serve them as a side, with potatoes, or rice.
Enjoy! Bon appétit!
